Live Cycle Delight

What’s your fitness must do?  

Yoga is my work-in, I must move daily. I take the stairs, I bike to meetings, I make up exercises in my daily activities. I live to be active, create challenges for my weak areas in an effort to move better. I like hot yoga as well.

Where do you work out?  

I work out at the studio, in Northville with my former track coach Stan Edwards; he pushes me to the limit which is extremely gratifying.

What do you eat pre / post work out?  

I live for carbs before a workout and at night for supper! Carbs fuel my day; after I work out, I drink smoothies high in fiber and organic raw cold-pressed juice.  

Do you have a unique work out habit?
No, I take a few spin classes a week, train with TRX, lift with coach Stan quarterly and restore with yoga. These are the principles of Live Cycle Delight: train, sweat, restore.

Detroit Barre

What’s your fitness must do?  

Barre class! Barre is the most effective, body strengthening and toning fitness class I’ve found. I could be feeling drained after a day at work, but going to barre class always energizes me and lifts my spirits. I even feel myself leaving class standing up straighter!  

Where do you work out?  

Detroit Barre! But I also enjoying running and biking at the gym and outside, and I’ve tried to incorporate more swimming and yoga into my routine this year. I try to stay generally active, and a nice walk along the Detroit RiverWalk can’t be beat! 

What do you eat pre / post work out? 

Typically I have a light meal before a workout, especially in the mornings. Usually I have a frittata (that’s a mix of eggs and eggs whites) and coffee. This gives me lean protein and vitamins, plus the coffee gives me a little extra boost to get a better workout! 

Do you have a unique work out habit?  

Not necessarily unique, but I think consistency and building good habits is key to over all physical, mental and emotional fitness. Are you going to have a perfect workout everyday? Probably not, but you can do something active every day if you start building it into your routine. And that’s what’s going to keep you going strong!

Citizen Yoga

What’s your fitness must do? 

Yoga, obviously! Yoga is not just a workout, it is a time for self-reflection and learning. At Citizen, we emphasize alignment, which helps students find optimal for their body and level of practice.

Where do you work out?  

Citizen Yoga is a place where we help students move and improve the strength and flexibility of the body, but most importantly, it is a space for people to connect inward and with other people in the community.

What do you eat pre / post work out? 

It is not recommended to eat right before yoga. If students eat before practice, we sell locally made B’Bites which provide energy, but do not overwhelm the digestive track. After workout, I tend to have soup, salad, eggs, yogurt, really anything.

Do you have an unique work out habit?  

I personally love doing back bends in the practice. Outside of yoga, bike riding or walking. I tend to do these other workouts in small spurts so that I cannot use the excuse that I do not have enough time.

What’s your fitness must do? 

No matter the workout of your choice, the most important factor to getting results is you must be consistent. 

Where do you work out?

What do you eat pre / post work out? 

I often work out first thing in the morning so I don’t tend to eat much before a workout. As a post workout meal, I love to get a quinoa bowl from beyond juice or a Colombian in which I add vanilla protein. 

Do you have an unique work out habit?  

As far as habits go, I typically keep my workouts under 45 minutes to an hour at most, and I always keep my rest short and my reps explosive.

What’s your fitness must do? 

RUNNING. Currently training for Comrades Ultra Marathon in South Africa June 2018.  But, I like to supplement it with strength workouts & yoga.

Where do you work out?  

Citizen Yoga, Detroit Body Garage, Detroit Riverwalk & Belle Isle 

What do you eat pre / post work out? 

Pre workout: PB toast pre run & coffee since most workouts start early in the am pre-work

Post workout: Vega Protein smoothie. My diet is plant based and focused on maintaining a strong immune system & managing stress/fatigue etc  

Do you have an unique work out habit?  

Favorite thing is to run with #headcoachluna, the Blue Heeler head coach of Detroit Body Garage.
