Earth Day is almost here! The day asks for as much active engagement as possible especially important in urban cities to help keep the ecosystem in check. Get out your green thumb, put on some gloves, grab a buddy, and do whatever else you think will make a difference in your community. Every action has the potential to lead to something greater…and greener! Several of these events are annual, which means you’ll feel more comfortable getting involved and rejoining the cause.

JOHN D. DINGELL PARK

What better way to start off this list of Detroit cleanups and Earth Week/Day right around the corner than to join one along the Detroit River? The Ecorse Creek Committee’s Spring Cleanup is happening at John D. Dingell Park, which is located in Ecorse, Michigan along the Detroit River. This popular place for Fourth of July fireworks is also a great place to come together this spring and help clean! Click HERE to register. Registration closes on April 20, 2023. DETROIT RIVER COALITION

A list of Earth Day Cleanups in Detroit wouldn’t be complete without The Detroit River Coalition Earth Day Cleanup. This annual event is looking for your participation in clean up at Milliken State Park (across the street from the Outdoor Adventure Center) on Saturday, April 22. You can make it a family event and get everyone involved! State parks should remain peaceful and pleasant to be at. Trash bags and nitrile gloves were provided to all volunteers. You never know what the weather is going to be like, so come prepared. Click HERE to get tickets.

2023 DEQUINDRE CUT SPRING CLEANUP
Date & Time: Saturday, April 22 from 10 AM – 1 PM
Earth Day Cleanups in Detroit this year aren’t skipping one of Detroit’s most-utilized greenspaces: the Dequindre Cut Greenway. Help remove litter with the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy for however long you’d like. Gloves, trash bags, and a limited number of pickers and rakes will be available. Free parking is located at Lafayette St & Orleans St, as well as along Woodbridge St near the entrance of the Cut. There is also free parking at the Eastern Market lot. Volunteers are encouraged to dress appropriately for the weather and bring their own work/gardening gloves.

PALMER PARK CLEAN-UP
Date & Time: Sat, April 23, 2023, from 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM
Earth Day Cleanups in Detroit help keep our favorite parks as pretty and vibrant as possible, especially as we spend time outside this spring. Let’s bring together the bright-minded community to make Palmer Park even more enjoyable. Bring a water bottle and get ready for trash pick-up, weeding, sweeping, raking, and clearing are just some of the ways to volunteer your time and energy! People for Palmer Park will be providing gloves, trash bags, hand- sanitizer, and light refreshments. Click HERE to register.

BELLE ISLE SPRING CLEANUP

Spend the day at the beautiful Belle Isle, one of Detroit’s most treasured outdoor spots. Detroit cleanups this Earth Day 2023 are making their rounds over at Belle Isle Aquarium. Once you pick up your materials, you’ll be ready to roam. You can still enjoy the same areas you normally would go to while picking up litter. materials and from there, Once your bag is full, just return it to the Belle Isle Aquarium to weigh your trashy collection and document the impact! REDUCE, REUSE, AND RECYCLE IN DETROIT
How can you do your part this Earth Day 2023 in Detroit without doing much at all? Get a blue recycling cart at home! Earth Day cleanups in Detroit are great to enjoy spring weather outside with the community but don’t forget about the small actions that a long way.
