Designing Detroit – Launch Party + Book Signing & Guardian Tour
Join us at Pure Detroit in the beautiful Guardian Building as we welcome Michael G. Smith, architecture historian and author of the new book: “Designing Detroit: Wirt Rowland and the Rise of Modern American Architecture.”
Michael G. Smith is a Detroit-area architecture historian with an interest in early twentieth-century building and construction. His lifelong enthusiasm for the fine arts led to an early career as a graphic artist and, more recently, his photography work has been published internationally.
The event will begin with a speaking engagement with Michael G. Smith, followed by a tour of the Guardian building where you will have access to stunning views from the 32nd floor and other great parts of the building.
The new book: “Designing Detroit: Wirt Rowland and the Rise of Modern American Architecture,” will be available for purchase, and Michael G. Smith will be available for book signings as well.
The event will start promptly at 1:30pm and should take about 2 hours including the guided tour.
Street parking is available. Since this is a Sunday, metered spots are free. No need to pay the meter. Paid secured lots are also available in the downtown area.
The Guardian Building is located at 500 Griswold, Detroit, MI 48226
