Detroit to Wyandotte 2018 Paddle
The most requested and most difficult tour on our schedule, the paddle down the Detroit River from Belle Isle Park in Detroit to Wyandotte. Paddle past the Renaissance Center and downtown Detroit, under the Ambassador Bridge, past Zug Island, the J.W. Westcott, and the upper islands of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge
Paddling Time: Averages 6 hours. Bring a lunch we will stop along the way to eat.
Route Classification: Intermediate/Advanced Paddle – We will paddle for about 2.5 hours before the lunch break. Take about 45 minutes for the lunch break and then another 3 hours of paddling to the take out. In the summer there is often a south wind so we frequently fight a head wind on this paddle which negates the benefit of the current. This is not a float trip, you must paddle.
Requirements: We ask that all kayaks used on the Detroit to Wyandotte paddle to be a minimum 13′ long, double bulkheaded sit-inside kayaks. All participants will be expected to know how to do a wet exit with a sprayskirt. When you paddle with RKC, you must have your life jacket on and zipped for the duration of the paddle. These requirements are for your safety and the safety of the group.
Please note that this program is not for beginners. If you are unsure of your ability to take this course, please call us to discuss your concerns prior to registering.
