Grosse Ile Yacht Club Paddle

The Grosse Ile Yacht Club (GIYC) hosts a bi-weekly group paddle from their beautiful location on the southeast end of Grosse Ile. GIYC’s location on Hickory Island at the confluence of the Detroit River and Lake Erie provides for numerous paddling opportunities. The route varies based on the group and paddling conditions. Join us after the Thursday paddles for dinner at GIYC.

Paddling Time: Averages 1.5 hours

Route Classification: Beginner/Intermediate Paddle

Requirements: We ask that all kayaks used on the Detroit River and Lake Erie be at least 12′ long and be double bulk-headed or sit-on-tops. If you paddle with RKC, you must have your life jacket on and zipped for the duration of the paddle. These requirements are for your safety and the safety of the group.

Route: Varies with wind and waves. Possible routes include paddling through the GIYC marina into Gibraltar Bay and then around Round Island, Swan Island, Elba Island or Hickory Island, around Sugar Island, or around Celeron Island.

Parking: You may unload your kayak in the circle drive, please pull to the side so others may drive around. After unloading, or if you are renting a kayak, parking is available in the parking lot.

Post Paddle Dinner: After the Thursday evening paddle, join the GIYC kayakers, in the club for dinner and drinks. Before you launch, reserve your dinner seat with the RKC representative and then join the group after the paddle to talk about your latest adventure!
