Pine Street Paddle Opening Day 2018
For 14 years Riverside Kayak Connection has been hosting a weekly Wednesday night group paddle on the Detroit River from Wyandotte’s Pine Street Put In. May 16, 2018 will be the first official Pine Street Paddle of the year.
The route is dependent on the group and conditions, but typically will go around the International Wildlife Refuge’s Grassy Island. Recommended for paddlers with some experience. Join us after the paddle at Portofino Restaurant, next to the launch, and enjoy dinner and drinks.
Dates: Group paddle every Wednesday May 16 – September 5, 2018. (We will not have an official paddle Wednesday, July 4th and the Wednesday of the Wyandotte Street Art Fair, July 11th, due to road closures and limited parking.)
There may be an unofficial paddle the Wednesdays before May 16th and after September 5th as well as July 4th and July 11th. RKC will not have rentals available on the unofficial paddles.
Time: Please be prepared to launch at 6:00 pm.
Paddling Time: Averages 2 hours
Route Classification: Prior paddling experience and general fitness encouraged. The Pine Street Paddlers will typically start together and then break into a faster group and a slower group There will be a crossing of the Detroit River and for safety each group should cross together.
Requirements: We ask that all kayaks used on the Detroit River be 12′ long and double bulk-headed or sit-on-tops. If you paddle with RKC, you must have your life jacket on and zipped for the duration of the paddle. These requirements are for your safety and the safety of the group.
Parking: Kayaks may be unloaded at the end of Pine Street. After unloading, or if you are renting a kayak, parking is available along Pine Street. Please do not park in Portofino’s parking lot, if there are no spaces on Pine Street you may park in Portofino’s out lot or at the Wyandotte Shores Golf Course parking lot.
Post Paddle Dinner: After the paddle, join the Pine Street Paddlers at Portofino Restaurant, next to the Pine Street Put In. Before you launch, reserve your dinner seat with the RKC representative and then join the group after the paddle to talk about your latest adventure! (You are on your own for the cost of dinner.)
