Anne Elizabeth Moore discusses her ongoing investigative comics journalism series created in collaboration with Melissa Mendes for Truthout. Through in-depth interviews, shoe-leather reporting, deep research, and brilliant, thoughtful graphics, the series explores challenges to survival and personhood in Detroit. Moore is a cultural critic and author whose work has been acclaimed by The New York Times Magazine, Mother Jones, Advertising Age, Forbes, Time, and the Guardian. She is the former editor of seminal, award-winning Punk Planet, and the founding editor of Best American Comics. Her work has appeared in the Whitney Biennial; in Leipzig, Phnom Penh, Berlin, Tbilisi, and Vienna; and in a solo exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago. She is a Fulbright Scholar, UN Press Fellow, and USC Annenberg/Getty Arts Journalism Fellow. She teaches at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and the College for Creative Studies. In 2016, she was awarded a fellowship in Detroit’s Write A House program.
