Spread holiday cheer and love for the giving season as it continues through December. Giving Tuesday in metro Detroit has new & previous outreach opportunities for locals to give their time and money to. Inspire your generation and the next.

Initiated in 2012, Giving Tuesday is often seen with the hashtag #GivingTuesday to further promote activism. Giving Tuesday is the Tuesday after Thanksgiving in the United States.

Look out for the numerous “501(c)(3) nonprofits” that are in support of this meaningful global movement. Detroitisit has provided lists of resources in the past to donate time and/or money to local non-profit organizations in Detroit and metro Detroit for Giving Tuesday. Southeast Michigan and the greater Detroit area is gearing up for another year of giving back to the community with thoughtful connections.

Celebrate Giving Tuesday in metro Detroit by giving extra attention to the growing minds of our future. Lawrence Technological University has been partnering with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Michigan for the past year. Together, they host the Lunch Buddies program at McIntyre Elementary in Southfield. Mentorship opportunities extend beyond the LTU community. The partnership began with an informational event and pilot program in 2024 and continues to grow. Mentorship spots are still available both within the LTU community and across the greater Metro Detroit area. This year’s Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southeast Michigan program began Oct. 28 at LTU but mentors are always welcome. Lawrence Technological University students, staff or faculty can sign up HERE

This National Latina organization makes it their mission to empower Latinas through leadership development, community service, education, and advocacy. Giving Tuesday in Metro Detroit looks like growth in many forms. Grow your ideas and your abilities to give as well as your love for the natural earth environment within urban communities. Greening of Detroit works diligently to inspire sustainable growth of a healthy urban community through trees, green spaces, healthy living, education, training and job opportunities. While most people think of tangible gifts to give during the holiday season, we’re here to help direct you towards another option that is the perfect gift for any occasion. Any Gift of A Tree donations made now will be included in their 2026 Gift of a Tree planting. The cost of the Gift of a Tree is $75.

Give on December 3rd during Giving Tuesday. #GivingTuesdayDetroit is the local expression of the global Giving Tuesday campaign in Oakland, Macomb, and Wayne Counties in Michigan. Did you know that this is Southeastern Michigan’s biggest local giving day of the year? We’ve mentioned a few ways to help people in the local area, but don’t forget about the animals! Check out all ways to donate to causes for children, veterans, the environment, etc. Share the love directly through your donation on SHARE on Giving Tuesday.
