June was African-American Music Appreciation Month in the United States. Look out because the music celebrations continue as we move through this August! Afro Nation Detroit 2023 will feature additional activations and events to honor Detroit’s musical contributions to the world and highlight its connection to present-day American, African, and global Black culture and music. This list of events/things to do in Detroit this August wouldn’t be complete without the Woodward Dream Cruise. This class car event held in Michigan is a dreamy way to experience the Motor City. Automotive enthusiasts and cruisers look forward to visiting Metro Detroit to participate in a roaring event that takes place in the historic birthplace of the American automobile. DETROIT TIGERS VS. CHICAGO CUBS

Play ball! There are plenty of fun things to do in Detroit this August and beyond. One thing you can’t always do year-round is watch baseball at Comerica Park! Don’t miss this next event! How large is this “massive photography exhibit”?  How big does roughly 200 photos sound? It’s the largest retrospective of this Ghanaian photographer’s work in the United States to date. It’s a walking timeline that narrates his revolutionary global career that began in the 1950s with black-and-white photography. This must-visit show is only viewable at the Detroit Institute of Arts. MICHIGAN STATE FAIR AT SUBURBAN COLLECTION SHOWPLACE

Thursday, August 31-Monday, September 4 at Michigan State Fair at Suburban Collection Showplace

Are you a true Michigander if you don’t attend The Michigan State Fair? Take a trip out to Novi this upcoming Labor Day weekend for this annual event. Suburban Collection in Novi welcomes everyone to celebrate the state’s agricultural heritage with livestock shows, carnival rides, live music, and yummy fair food. This summer experience is unique to the state and we treasure it each year! Enjoy the kick off on Thursday as it runs all the way through September 4 (Labor Day).
