Good summer vibes wouldn’t be the same without great summer jams. Afro Nation recently announced Afro Nation Detroit, which is arriving this August 19-20, 2023. This popular music festival touching base in Detroit will be a first for the city! If anyone knows about music and legendary stars, it’s the city of Detroit, once home to Motown’s greatest. Music lovers will gather for a little bit of everything from Hip-Hop, R&B, Amapiano, Dancehall, to Reggae, and other African, Afro-Caribbean, and African American musical genres

Detroitisit rounded up a sunny 2023 Afro Nation Detroit playlist, highlighting what’s to come for this summer’s Afro Nation Detroit. Whether you can make it or not, you’ll have an array of tunes to soak up all summer.

WHAT IS AFRO NATION?

First, it’s helpful to know a little more about Afro Nation. Did you know that Afro Nation is the world’s biggest celebration of African music and entertainment? Their goal is to unite the African diaspora with exuberant events featuring music’s biggest stars. The month of June is also Black Music Appreciation Month, so it’s a wonderful time to explore and appreciate the historical timeline of various music genres.

The United States has been celebrating African-American Music Appreciation Month in June since 1979. Expected to draw tens of thousands of attendees each day from around the globe, Afro Nation Detroit 2023 will feature additional activations and events to honor Detroit’s musical contributions to the world and highlight its connection to present-day American, African, and global Black culture and music.
