Happy early St. Patrick’s Day! Celebrate Detroit’s St. Patrick’s Day Parade and its return to Corktown this Sunday along with some pre-event festivities. Party-goers can find St. Patrick’s Day celebrations all around the days leading up to St. Patrick’s Day. The community is coming together for Saint Patrick’s Day or the Feast of Saint Patrick. This cultural and religious celebration is held on the 17th of March, which is the traditional death date of Saint Patrick (c. AD 385–461), the foremost patron saint of Ireland. The Irish pride can be felt near and wide.

DETROIT ST. PATRICK’S DAY PARADE
When & Where: Sunday, March 12. The parade begins at 1 p.m. near Sixth Street and Michigan Avenue and continues west to 14th Street in Corktown.
Get your green on and then head outside to Corktown for the return of Detroit St. Patrick’s Parade this Sunday! There’ll be everything from marching and pipe and drum bands to color guard units, floats, clowns, novelty groups, and marching units. Everyone will be on the move west on Michigan Avenue, dispersing at 14th Street. The event typically attracts 80,000-100,000 people, making it one of the largest St. Patrick’s parades in the country. Share your love of Irish culture, music, and heritage with other metro Detroiters. It’s also a celebration of Detroit’s historic Corktown and the exciting new things happening in the area!
THE FAMILY FUN ZONE
Date & Time: Sunday, March 12 (same day and place as the parade) 12:30-3:30 p.m.
The parade also offers a Family Fun Zone, sponsored by Jameson Irish Whiskey, a reserved, family-friendly area located at the northeast corner of Michigan Avenue and Sixth Street. On parade day, you can expect live Irish entertainment, coffee, donuts and water and private restrooms, and free parking with an event ticket. PAINTING OF THE SHAMROCKS
When & where: Friday, March 10 at the United Irish Societies Irish Plaza on Sixth Street and Michigan Avenue.
Engage in pre-fun St. Patrick’s Day festivities with Detroit’s “Painting of The Shamrocks”. The parade queen and her court, parade officials, UIS President Mike Kelly, and Grand Marshal Kevin Murphy will be there along with Irish pipe and drum musicians.
OTHER PRE-PARADE IDEAS
The United Irish Society is comprised of more than 35 Irish organizations across Metro Detroit. Several UIS members are community leaders, and business professionals who donate time, money, and resources to ensure the parade’s continued support. Other pre-parade features include the annual Queen of the Detroit United Irish Societies program and donations to nonprofits and scholarship programs. The charities that benefit from this year’s parade include Pope Francis Center & Mary’s Mantle.

ST. PATRICK’S DAY IN THE PARK
On March 11, the St. Clair Shores Parks & Recreation Department is hosting this St. Paddy’s event for adults and kids to enjoy a proper celebration. The event is free and will feature live musical entertainment by Pipe & Drum, Bob & Carl, and O’Ken & O’Greg. Adults can check out the food trucks and have a beer. Click HERE for more details.

ST. PATTY’S DANCE
It’s time to jig on March 17! Kids and adults who have special needs are invited to this St. Patrick’s Day-themed dance. supported by the Chief Financial Credit Union. There will be music and refreshments too. Advance registration is required. Click HERE to register in advance. Tickets are $20-24.

LEPRECHAUN DAYS AT CANTERBURY VILLAGE IN LAKE ORION
If you’re a parent and haven’t taken your kid to Leprechaun Days in Lake Orion yet, then this is your sign! Everyone can enjoy being outdoors while the kids will roam throughout the village collecting hidden coins. They then take them to the shops where they can exchange them for prizes. There will also be a petting zoo, kid’s DJ, fire pits for s’mores, and free pictures with Leprechauns in the Leprechaun Barn. There’s a $5 entry fee.
