Looking for the prime way to spend time with your animals and make the most out of this time together during quarantine? We’ve come up with some tips, spots and local establishments you can visit that will be an adventure for both your pet and you!
1. THE GOOD OL’ FASHION WALK
Nothing better than taking a walk with your pet! While dogs are primarily the pet everyone chooses to take a walk or run with, there are quite a few cats these days that enjoy a walk as well! Harness those puppies and kitties up, and take a stroll. A lot of streets are clear, especially if you live directly downtown, so this is also an awesome chance to get a new pet acclimated to walking on a leash anyways!

2. HIT THE DOG PARK
Exclusive to the Pooch Crew, there are quite a few places you can visit with your dog, find friends (socially distant friends, of course), and have play dates! Some of the best spots include:
- Detroit Dog Park – 17th St & Rose St, Detroit, MI, US, 48216
- Midtown Detroit Dog Park – 401-439 W Canfield St, Detroit, MI, US, 48201
- Grand Circus Dog Park – 2-98 E Adams Ave, Detroit, MI, US, 48226
- Wagner Park Dog Run – 2420 N Main St, Royal Oak, MI, US, 49073
- Mark Twain Dog Park – 4600 N Campbell Rd, Royal Oak, MI, US, 48073
- Behnke Memorial Dog Park – 300 N Groesbeck Hwy, Mount Clemens, MI, US, 48043

3. GRAB A NEW TRINKET OR TOY FROM A LOCAL PET RETAILER
If your pet is more homebound, or is a mix between outdoor and indoor, we know they’ll appreciate a new thing to play with. Spots like City Bark, K-9 Pet Supplies, and Cass Corridog are still operating with limited hours.
4. START YOUR PET’S BLOSSOMING SOCIAL MEDIA CAREER
Ever think “Wow there are so many pet influencers, could my cat/dog be one?” Now is really the time to start. It may seem overboard to some, but I’ve even read in an influencer book once that the recruiter for a campaign paid someone $100,000 for 3 posts on Instagram from a dog, so why not shoot your shot?

Now is the prime time to adopt, dear friends! Why do I say that? Well, it’s because of the fact that you are now at home and you can properly acclimate your pet to you, as well as its new lifestyle. You are able to care and foster through it’s beginning stages if you’re getting a young animal, and if you’re getting an older animal, you now have the opportunity to teach and train your pet to behave the way you’re hoping it will when things hit the “new normal” and “going back to work” stages of COVID-19. Plus, a lot of shelters and locations for adoption are loving the influx of adoptions!
Also, as a word of desired advice, if you are comfortable with doing so, get a pet that is either slightly disabled, isn’t being adopted, or is being ignored by the general population. Statistics show out of Cats that the least adopted are Black Cats because people consider them bad luck, or that they’re too dark to take photos of (totally superficial right?), and many apartment complexes and certain city ordinances are prejudice to breeds like Pit Bulls. The more we can adopt the ignored and discarded, the better the life the animal can have, and we can break the stigma of some of these restrictive breeds.
