Last week, Detroitisit surveyed followers, seeking insight on the true Detroit brand loyalty of local brands that stem from the heart of the city. The results are in: Detroit overwhelmingly favors its roots!

When questioned, Sanders vs. Dove, 76% voted in favor of Sanders. 80% preferred Vernor’s over Canada Dry, 76% preferred McClure’s over Claussen, 77% favored Kowalski over Jimmy Dean, 53% of you showed love for Faygo over Coca Cola and 75% made it apparent that they care more deeply for Better Made over Lays.

The overwhelming majority is proof positive of the importance of supporting local. The loyalty, support, and purchases help keep these Detroit brands alive today, something that is top of mind as we dive into 2021. So, remember to continue to support Detroit brands and integrate them into your favorite at-home recipes as we all take the winter or 2021 day by day.

To help you with any winter blues, we’re sharing our favorite at home recipes that integrate Detroit brands. BOSTON COOLER [VERNORS]

Although Detroit isn’t in the name – it’s the heart of the recipe. Make a Boston Cooler, integrating Vernor’s. This milkshake recipe uses Vernors in place of the milk, adding a unique flavor that deters slightly from the traditional vanilla milkshake flavor. Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 3 scoops vanilla ice cream
  • 12-oz Vernor’s
  • Combine ingredients in a blender and blend until smooth

HOT CHICKEN SALAD MADE WITH BETTER MADE CHIPS

This delicious recipe shared on the Better Made website via the ‘Cooking with Better Made’ recipe sweepstakes, submitted by a fellow Michigander with a love for Better Made Chips. The family recipe has been around for three generations and counting. Directions can be found here. 

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 3 to 4 large chicken breasts cut into 1″ pieces
  • 1 Can Cream of celery or chicken soup
  • 1/2 cup mayo
  • 1/4 cup mustard
  • 1 med size onion diced
  • 1 cup sliced celery thin
  • 1 cup broccoli flowerets frozen or fresh
  • 6 oz slivered almonds
  • 1 lb shredded cheese of any flavor
  • 2 cups crushed Better Made Chips (BBQ, HOT, or Plain)
  • Salt, pepper, and hot sauce to taste

MCCLURE’S DILLY CHEESE BALL

McClure’s defined this recipe as it’s grandma’s recipe, perfect for a party dish (or for a night in!) the secret? McClure’s Dill Pickle Relish.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup McClure’s Dill Pickle Relish (drained)
  • ¼ cup chopped onion
  • 1 ½ cup of shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 2 tbsp minced parsley

ROASTED POTATOES AND KOWALSKI KIELBASA

From Natasha’s Kitchen – it could not be easier to integrate Kowalski Kielbasa into a delicious, roasted potatoes and kielbasa pan. According to the blog, these roasted potatoes with sausage couldn’t be easier. There is no need to peel the potatoes and it’s a one-pan potatoes recipe with a quick and easy prep.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 3 lbs small red potatoes cut into 1/3” to ½” thick rings
  • 2 tbsp extra light olive oil or any high heat cooking oil
  • 2 tbsp minced fresh parsley or ½ tbsp dried parsley
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 2 garlic cloves pressed
  • 1lb kielbasa or sausage cut into 3/4’ thick rings

Here’s What You’ll Need:

  • 3scoops ice cream
  • 1-3maraschino cherries
  • 1/3cup toasted and chopped pecans
  • 1 tbsp Sanders Hot Fudge

For the Whipped Cream:

  • 2/3cup whipping cream
  • 1tsp vanilla extract
  • 1tbsp sugar

For the Caramel:

  • 1 packed cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • Pinch salt
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
