“Dry January” is in full swing, but we continue to celebrate the new for Detroit’s dining scene.New Detroit restaurant openings are rising with the wonderful help of grants and other large community support movements. Stay tuned for what’s brewing over at 4403 Wabash St. in Detroit’s Core City neighborhood. This plot of land aims to open in late 2026. A $100,000 grant from the state of Michigan is bringing life to Gardenside Brewing. Expect this brewery to have a farm-to-table food menu, craft beer, large bright windows, and a vibrant landscape. It aims to open in late 2026.

ANTIDOTE OPENS JANUARY 19
Celebrate new Detroit restaurant openings with freshly new spots that will soon be your favorite. LITTLE LIBERIA
New Detroit restaurant openings encourage patience and steady growth. Little Liberia was slated to open during fall 2024, but construction has pushed the date back. Ameneh Marhaba is the owner and chef of this melting pot of a restaurant that includes Liberian dishes on a halal menu that has tastes of African, Caribbean, and Antebellum-South African American influences. The restaurant is set to open in the fall inside The Ribbon development at 16530 E. Warren Ave. in East English Village. Marhaba immigrated to Detroit from Liberia in 2010. Look out for a new brick-and-mortar chapter from a familiar name in Eastern Market!
WAKA

New Detroit restaurants have strong family ties and ownership that is expanding to serve more options. Check out the East African food truck, Waka, which is connected to the Baobab Fare Family. The plan is to still move into a storefront at 2465 Russell St. in Eastern Market this fall. the former home of Russell Street Deli. Expect fast-casual counter service with dine-in options featuring signature items like brochette and chapati, more East African street food options, and “to-go” meals. SUNDA NEW ASIAN
New Detroit restaurants include Sunda New Asian. Embrace all that is new with this District Detroit restaurant location (33 W. Columbia St.) that says “opening late February” on their official website. Billy Dec is a Chicago native as well as an Emmy Award-winning TV personality, actor, and restaurant owner. Founded in 2009 in Chicago, Sunda is known for modern new Asian cuisine. Menu explorations include flavors of Japan, China, and other Southeast Asian influences.
