In particular, artists who don’t confine themselves to traditional mediums and exhibition space. Head to the heart of downtown Detroit to see how they’re impacting the community. DAVID KLEIN GALLERY

David Klein Gallery opened in 1990 with a focus on contemporary art and an interest in Post War American art. Since the opening of the second location in downtown Detroit in 2015, David’s dream has panned out perfectly into this architecturally significant historic space, marking the expansion of the gallery’s contemporary program. This gallery is home to many large-scale exhibitions of painting, sculpture, photography, and installation by emerging and mid-career contemporary artists. Olayami Dabls’ story extends 16 years back. Since then, the vision has birthed an elaborate space for a flourishing community. African heritage is visible on an immensely powerful platform thanks to Dabls’ gallery. Expansion is always a good thing, especially when it involves Detroit galleries. Simone DeSousa Gallery in Midtown Detroit is a contemporary art gallery and project located in Cass Corridor, Midtown Detroit, since 2008. Detroit galleries give viewers what they came from extensive spaces to a flow of exhibitions. Desousa includes an EDITION space, which has presented more than 100 exhibitions in the past years. Since 1987, Galerie Camille has continued to promote wildly talented established and emerging artists both on the local and international levels. Their latest exhibition exemplifies the standards of their gallery. Running through January 8th, the exhibition features works by Gilda Snowden, Donald Sulton, Andy Warhol, Kiki Smith, Helen Frankenthaler, Eric Fischl, and Hughie Lee-Smith to name a few. N'amdi Center For Contemporary Art

N’NAMDI

The N’Namdi Center for Contemporary Art is a diverse nonprofit dedicated to enlightenment through the arts. Created by George N’Namdi, this state-of-the-art facility includes four exhibition spaces, including indoor and outdoor performance areas. They’re hosting an inspiring viewing of 30 years of Nanette Carter with Nanette Carter until Jan.15th. The exhibition is “A Survey and her Contemporaries Al Loving, Sam Gilliam, Gregory Coates”. This event recognizes that no single dominant style in contemporary art today.
