Keep up the Detroit spirit and humanity this month by participating in all of the must-knows for National Adopt a Cat Month in Metro Detroit this June. Check out our list for some trusted adoption and rescue centers/shelters in the local area for cats and dogs.

June is designated as Adopt a Cat Month because it coincides with “kitten season,” when shelters see a large influx of kittens in need of homes. However, Adopt a Cat Month in Metro Detroit should ignite a fire in citizens to think about adopting abandoned, homeless dogs, too, that end up in local shelters throughout Michigan.

Help contribute to the positive impact of pet rescue in cities. Stray dogs and cats have so much potential for bringing years of joy to households. Let’s widen the scope and see what we can do to create ripples in our neighborhoods, cities, and broader regions of Michigan, and beyond.

Detroitisit rounded up a special guide of local shelters to help you make the best decisions this June and the rest of the year. Stay informed on Adopt a Cat Month in Metro Detroit, so you can help out any fur friend. It doesn’t just have to be a kitten or one of Detroit’s beloved alley cats! Think about fostering a pet or volunteering your time to non-profit pet rescue organizations as well.

WHY IS JUNE NATIONAL CAT ADOPTION MONTH?

The month of June is dedicated to the outreach, resulting in hundreds of felines finding a forever home. Cities are building better connections to help get homeless cats off the streets and into immediate care, leading to a new home. Kitten season in June has led to an increase in the homelessness of cats. Campaigns for cat adoption started in June once people realized something needed to be done about the influx of cats being brought to the shelters. Not to mention, the increased need for funding for the onset of illnesseses in kittens and other animals in care. Find the many local no-kill shelters with strong missions and ethical care services in Michigan and America. Become a loving feline parent or “dog Mom” or “dog Dad” to an animal who’s waiting for a new stable home.

MICHIGAN-BASED WHISKER AND BEST FRIENDS ANIMAL SOCIETY TEAM UP TO HELP SPONSOR CAT AND KITTEN ADOPTION FEES

Whisker is sponsoring all cat and kitten adoption fees at Best Friends locations across the country throughout June. This year, Michigan-based Whisker (makers of the Litter-Robot) and Best Friends Animal Society are teaming up to bust cat myths and boost adoptions through a nationwide initiative called “Truth or Tales.” The campaign aims to debunk common misconceptions that keep cats from being adopted, like the belief they’re aloof or can’t be trained.

To help more felines find loving homes, Whisker is sponsoring all cat and kitten adoption fees at Best Friends locations across the country throughout June. Additionally, for every social post using the hashtag #FelineFolkloreChallenge, Whisker will donate $1 to Best Friends Animal Society, up to $10,000.
