Counting for the 2020 Census begins tomorrow, Detroit. Starting March 12th, all residents will be receiving a mailer to fill out. Let’s get down to the dates and unravel the important facts.
MARCH 12 – 20
Starting March 12th, all households will begin to receive mail from the Census Bureau with detailed information on how to respond to the 2020 Census. When filling it out, you can do so online, by phone, or by mail.
MARCH 30 – April 1
During this time period, the Census Bureau will count people who are experiencing homelessness. When doing so they will count people in shelters, at soup kitchens and food vans, on the streets, and at non-sheltered, outdoor locations such as tent encampments.
APRIL 1
April 1st is Census Day. By this time you should respond for your whole home in one of three ways, either online, by phone, or by mail. When answering the questions asked, you’ll tell the Census Bureau where you live as of April 1, 2020.
THE MONTH OF APRIL
Census takers will start to visit college students who live on campus, people living in senior homes, and others who live with large groups of individuals.
MAY-JULY
During this time period, the Census takers will begin to visit households who did not answer the 2020 Census.
DECEMBER
The Census Bureau will deliver the data acquired by the count to the President and Congress as required by the Constitution. This is the first step in redrawing congressional districts.
