Looking for a Place Where You Can Order Outside? Here are Some of Detroit’s Best Walk Up Window Spots

CHOCOLATE COATED SOFT SERVE ICE CREAM PHOTO DYLAN FERREIRA DETROIT

The hustle and bustle of midsummer in Detroit is upon us. As some of us prepare ourselves for our return to the office in the fall and others get ready for the start of classes, there are only so many days left to enjoy Michigan’s warm weather. For those of us looking to soak up the outdoors as much as possible, here are some fantastic window service spots around the city where you can enjoy some good eats, drinks, and conversations.

HUDDLE SOFT SERVE

At Huddle’s two Detroit locations it’s not revenge that is served cold, it’s deliciously creamy soft serve. Whether you’re downtown looking for a mid shopping spree snack, or in the West Village and craving an after dinner dessert, Huddle’s got you covered. Their menu is simple: vanilla, chocolate, or swirl and a handful of toppings, but executed in perfect fashion. Huddle also collaborates with chefs in the area to create special flavors for holidays and to support causes.

MILWAUKEE CAFFE

Grabbing a cup of joe or meeting a friend for tea are experiences really only made better by the community built around Milwaukee Caffe’s to-go window. Like many coffee shops, Milwaukee offers a cozy feeling with each drink served, but the crew and regulars like to-go beyond ambiance. Communal conversations—both deep and not-so-deep—are the usual at the Caffe, so be ready to give your two cents as you grab your scrumptious iced latte.

TWIST

Twist is a newer addition to Parker Alley downtown, offering house-made, sweet and salty soft pretzels, to-go cocktails, beer, and other menu items. Twist’s soft pretzels, the main attraction, can be ordered topped with either sea salt, cinnamon sugar, or sea salt and sesame seeds and can be dipped in an assortment of sauces. Of course, what goes better with a warm pretzel than a cold beer or pre-packaged Olin cocktail? Not much we suppose. Twist is open every weekend, so make sure to stop by and grab yourself a freshly made snack!

IGGY’S EGGIES

For breakfast sandwich lovers galore, Iggy’s Eggies is the perfect breakfast stop on the way to the office—or really anywhere. From classic breakfast sandwiches to breakfast burritos, french toast sticks, and hash browns, the menu has a little something for almost any breakfast preference. Iggy’s also offers vegan meat alternatives for those with dietary restrictions. Attached to the side of Lovers Only, Iggy’s Eggies has a similar pastel and old-diner vibe. It is open daily for breakfast.

COLD TRUTH VEGAN SOFT SERVE

If dairy isn’t your thing, but soft serve is, then Cold Truth probably is probably your icy summer soulmate. Located in Midtown, Cold Truth serves made-from-scratch vegan soft serve in hand-made waffle cones topped with prepared-in-house toppings. With that much care put into a dessert, you simply cannot go wrong. Each day Cold Truth offers different, unique flavors, and often collaborates with local chefs and businesses to create exclusive and outstanding specials. Check out their instagram to see today’s flavors!
