Can you feel fall in the air? Halloween/fall events and other things to do in Detroit this October 2023 range from scary, spooky, to fun and magically sweet. Dressing up as your favorite characters and other creepy creatures is just one of the many ways to get in the Halloween spirit. Find family-friendly events for all ages that’ll get you outside in the cool, autumn air. 

Celebrating Detroit’s historic Fort Wayne’s 175th anniversary and the Detroit Harvest Fest & Food Truck Rally at Dequindre Cut were just the start of the festivities.

 October in Detroit and metro Detroit is still a cultural experience. The zoo will have its own costume change this month! The weekends will be extra cool and fun this month.

This list of fun things to do in Detroit in October wouldn’t be complete without Detroit Zoo’s beloved annual Halloween extravaganza! Presented by Corewell Health, join the annual family-friendly event that already kicked off on October 7, 2023. There are still two enchanting weekends left for all ages to enjoy. Each weekend has a different theme that the Zoo staff works hard at to reimagine the park. Guests are encouraged to match each weekend’s theme. Bring out your creativity with

with Monster Mash — Oct. 14-15 and Movies, Books, and Make Believe — Oct. 20-22.  Get ready for trick-or-treating, educational stations, Halloween face painting, habitat chats, themed photo opportunities, entertaining jugglers, magicians, and more. DISNEY JUNIOR LIVE ON TOUR COSTUME PALOOZA

Date: Friday, October 20, 2023 at 6 P.M 

There’ll be plenty of adult costume parties to partake in, leading up to Halloween in Detroit. Let the kiddos experience their own joys of dressing up as well as watch their favorite characters put on a show! Don’t miss Mickey, Minnie, and the colorful cast of Disney pals as they take the stage for an interactive costume party at Detroit’s historic Fox Theatre. Expect lots of singing, dancing, 3D effects, and world-renowned acrobatics. You’ll also see highlights of characters from Marvel’s Spidey and His Amazing Friends. A2 ARTOBERFEST

Dates: Saturday and Sunday October 28th & 29th 

Take a trip outside of town to celebrate the arts with the A2 Artoberfest! Check off your list of fun, family things to do in Detroit/metro Detroit this October 2023 with this free outdoor fair on Ann Street. You’ll view works by 100 jury-selected artists at this outdoor fair, stretching from Ann Street to North Fourth Avenue. Enjoy lovely fall weather and the gradual shift of tree colors as you shop the talented artisans (i.e. jewelry, paintings, fiber art, ceramics). Family things to do in Detroit and nearby this October have the perfect mix of spooky and fun. Check out Dearborn’s Greenfield Village for a unique Halloween tradition. Enjoy chilly and a bit spooky weekends from 4-9:30 p.m. this Halloween month with a transformative Greenfield Village. Family-friendly fall things to do in Detroit are great to explore, but it’s also nice to take a trip to another town to enjoy fall festivities in brisk air. Peruse downtown Birmingham and see what the Birmingham Shopping District has to offer for this special art festival walk in it’s 42nd year. Have you heard the hype over Cider in The City? You and your family & friends are in for a treat with this truly one-of-a-kind Detroit fall experience. Cider mill fun is coming to Detroit’s Beacon Park. Experience all the fall activities & essentials essentials right here in the city. This list of family-friendly things to do in Detroit this October wouldn’t be complete without this event that includes horse-drawn hayrides, vendors, live music, and entertainment.
