Founder, Sandra L. Allen, established her home-based sewing business and word spread of her talent and dedication to sewing to women throughout the Metro Detroit area. The doors of The Black Dress Co., a clothing store that focuses on classic and conservative feminine fashion styles with a trendy style officially opened in 2008 and was able to sustain momentum through the recession with old school marketing and dedicated customers. THE TEN NAIL BAR
Located at 6541 Woodward Ave., Detroit, MI 48202, co-owners Kelli Coleman and Anika Jackson saw a need for a quality, modern nail bar that could also serve as a fun social space for Detroit’s residents and professionals. THE LIP BAR
Melissa Butler, a Detroit native, started The Lip Bar in her kitchen in 2012 while working on Wall Street because she was tired of the beauty industry’s lack of diversity, lack of inclusion, and excessive amounts of unnecessary chemicals.
