Pingree Farms is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to neighborhood revitalization and youth education through urban agriculture. Vacant, run-down land experiences an urban food renewal. CADILLAC URBAN GARDENS
Cadillac Urban Gardens (CUGM) was a local, collaborative effort that developed with and for the community in mind. Since 2012, the has repurposed 331 shipping containers from GM and utilized them as raised beds to grow fresh produce the community can harvest without cost. CUGM provides food security for residents with little access to garden space and or fresh produce and has become a model for sustainable gardening practices. CORIANDER KITCHEN & FARM
Did you think this list of the best Detroit urban farms would include a kitchen? Coriander Kitchen and Farm is a canal-side restaurant (4-9P) and bar (4-10P) and farm. Count on the kitchen to offer thoughtfully sourced takes on classic pub staples, as well as a fun seasonal menu. The best inspiration comes from the heart. They grow fresh veggies and herbs, as well as flowers organically on their farm in the heart of Detroit. They aren’t taking any more reservations for the rest of the summer, though. The Capuchin Soup Kitchen’s Earthworks Urban Farm is a 1.5-acre certified organic farm. Take your passion for urban farming to the east side of Detroit. The Detroit Black Community Food Security Network (DBCFSN) was formed in February 2006 to address food insecurity in Detroit’s Black community and to organize members of that community to step more into their power in leading the local food security movement. Since 2008, DBCFSN has operated D-Town Farm, the largest of Detroit’s many gardens and farms. You’re more than welcome to volunteer at this farm that occupies slightly more than seven acres inside the Meyers Tree Nursery in the City of Detroit’s Rouge Park.
