Feeling the Need to Help Others? Here’s Where to Give Back in Detroit This Thanksgiving

These Soup Kitchens, Homeless Shelters and Non-Profits Could Use Your Help Now

GIVE BACK IN DETROIT

Sometimes the best way to get into the Thanksgiving spirit is by taking a moment to give thanks for what you have and giving back to those who may not be as fortunate. Spread joy throughout the Detroit community and give back in Detroit this Thanksgiving by giving back to local soup kitchen, homeless shelter, or non-profit, remembering safety first.

There are plenty of ways to get involved in local efforts to feed the hungry, help the homeless, or find animals a loving home. Although volunteering this year may have different restrictions than years passed and you can’t make it in-person, you can always consider donating food, money, or clothes to these five Detroit organizations:

 

CAPUCHIN SOUP KITCHEN 

Capuchin Soup Kitchen welcomes donations in many forms. Visit the “Ways to Give” page via the Capuchin Soup Kitchen website where they welcome monetary gifts, panned giving, Christmas cards, the donor bill of rights, and the bonanza barrel raffle. The kitchen receives no government subsidies and the ability to carry out its mission to tend to people’s basic needs (especially food) depends on the generosity of benefactors. Currently, in-person volunteers are not allowed due to COVID-19.

 

CROSSROADS OF MICHIGAN

The goals of Crossroads of Michigan are to provide a hot, nutritious meal, to hungry, impoverished and families every Sunday of the year, where meals are served from noon to 3 p.m. each week. Any gift that is given will ensure Crossroads clients will never have to bear their burdens alone. By donating, . DETROIT RESCUE MISSION

Through Holiday Hope For The Hungry, you can help neighbors facing a hunger crisis. $1.95 provides a Thanksgiving meal & more. Every $1.95 you give now will provide a meal this Thanksgiving to families and individuals that are facing a hunger crisis and have nowhere else to turn. Whether they’ve fallen on hard times and are having trouble restarting or they need encouragement and resources that they don’t currently have access to—a good, hot meal can make all the difference for those in our community that is in need and can open the door to real-life change.

Between now and Thanksgiving over 243,000 meals will be served through Detroit Rescue Mission to those who are hungry and hurting. Click here to donate now and give back in Detroit.

 

GLEANERS COMMUNITY FOOD BANK

Help Set the Table for a Happy, Not Hungry, Thanksgiving! Gleaners knows it has been a hard year for all of us – especially those that are hungry in the Detroit neighborhood.
