A spring and summer pastime for many is attending a farmers market. We love filling bags with fresh produce, homemade goods, and plants galore. There is something refreshing about purchasing local, responsibly sourced products that can never be replaced in a box store setting. If you’ve been feeling the itch for a farmer’s market stroll, you’re not alone. We’ve gathered a curated list of Detroit and Metro Area farmers markets for you to get your fill of this spring and summer! Please be advised that all markets require mask-wearing and social distancing. 

 

BIRMINGHAM FARMERS MARKET

Every Sunday from May to October, Birmingham’s Farmers Market is ready to provide the public with farm-fresh goods and products. All ages are invited as the market is walkable and outdoor. The market itself is proud to partner with local and Michigan-based sellers. Goods range from local produce to artisan goods, fresh foods, meat and dairy, and more. The Market’s hours are from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

 

ROYAL OAK FARMERS MARKET

Did you know that Royal Oak was once considered the Rhubarb Capital of the world? Back in the 1930’s, there was a great abundance of rhubarb being shipped through the state that the nickname served it well. Now, after almost 100 years since its founding, Royal Oak’s Farmers Market still connects local individuals with local produce—including rhubarb of course—and a great variety of seasonal goods. Royal Oak’s market’s hours are Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. 

 

EASTERN MARKET’S SATURDAY MARKET

Eastern Market may be the most well-known market in the area, boasting of hundreds of visitors in a day pre-pandemic. Vendors come from all over, selling a wide variety of locally and responsibly sourced goods, spanning throughout the markets multiple sheds. On Saturdays Eastern Market focuses its vendors on freshly grown goods. Eastern Market’s Saturday Market is open from 6:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

SOWING SEEDS GROWING FUTURES FARMERS MARKET

Sowing Seeds Growing Futures is a program of Joy Southfield that supports local vendors of all types. Goods found at the market range from fresh produce, fresh teas, handmade soaps, crafts, books, and other handmade or locally sourced goods. This farmers market is excited to kick off their weekly season beginning May 25th and will be continuing every Tuesday from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. 

 

ANN ARBOR FARMERS MARKET

Running even longer than Royal Oak’s Farmers Market, Ann Arbor’s Farmers Market has been around for over 100 years. Throughout the market, over 100 vendors from Michigan and Ohio sell homemade goods, locally grown produce, and locally sourced goods such as candles, masks, pasties, cheese, plants, vegetables, fruit and so much more. The Ann Arbor Market is open year round, on Saturdays from 7:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.

 

DEARBORN FARMERS ARTISAN MARKET

Beginning June 4th and continuing every Friday through September, Dearborn Farmers Artisan Market is intent on bringing together community and supporting local farmers and entrepreneurs. Along with produce, baked goods, cheeses, meats, and other goods, the market offers the ability for market-goers to enjoy cooking demonstrations, live entertainment, food trucks, yoga lessons, and more. The Market is open every Friday from 2:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
