This year’s theme is “Labor United Stronger than Ever!” Bring your own individual strength and come together as a community for Detroit’s Labor Day Parade 2023 after a three-year hiatus. The Detroit Jazz festival kicks off the cool month of September events in Detroit as we head into the weekend of more gatherings.

DETROIT JAZZ FESTIVAL
Date & Time: Friday, Sept. 1 – Monday, Sept. 4
Starting off this list of Labor Day 2023 events in Detroit and beyond is none other than the Detroit Jazz Festival. Stay awhile for this free, four-day event happening at the Hart Plaza and Campus Martius in downtown Detroit. Labor Day weekend will be filled with various sounds from bands performing on the JP Morgan Chase Main Stage, the Carhartt Amphitheater Stage, and the Absopure Waterfront Stage. 2023 MICHIGAN LABOR DAY PARADE
Date & Time: Monday, September 4, 2023-staging @ 8 A.M.-Parade begins @ 9 A.M
March with Detroiters, Metro-Detroiters, and other Michiganders as we celebrate the long-awaited 2023 Michigan Labor Day Parade! Expect to see a sea of Red UAW shirts to show solidarity. Hosted by the Metro-Detroit AFL-CIO, the parade will take place on Monday and begin promptly at 9 a.m. EST. Stick around after the parade and join with other union families at Roosevelt Park. You’ll listen to a powerful message of solidarity from President Shawn Fain as well as a range of other speakers and union allies. SOARING EAGLE ARTS, BEATS, & EATS
Date & time: Friday, Sept. 1-Monday, Sept. 4
Are you ready for this year’s Arts, Beats, & Eats festival? This Oakland County Labor Day weekend celebration is cherished each year and it will be held in downtown Royal Oak on Friday and carry on through Monday. Click HERE to purchase tickets and see availability (event is free until Friday at 5 p.m.). There will be over 200 music acts and family entertainers are set to perform on nine stages. Not to mention, a “cannabis zone”. Food vendors, art booths, beer tents, and much more are also available all weekend.
2023 HAMTRAMCK LABOR DAY FESTIVAL
Date & Time: Sat, Sep 2, 4 PM – Sun, Sep 3, 2 AM
Labor Day 2023 in Detroit will be the main event, but there are other celebrations to join too. Don’t miss out on the 2023 Hamtramck Labor Day Festival. Enjoy a weekend of fun, featuring the yacht races down Jos. What else to expect: Campau, (Hamtramck tradition) as well as other fun action-oriented events for the whole family. Wrestling will be on Saturday, and Sunday is the Hamtramck Labor Day Parade on Monday, September 4. It wouldn’t be a festival without the essential music on stage, food (including restaurant booths), and lots of joy. You may get hit with a water balloon! MUSSEL BEACH MUSC FESTIVAL CADIEUX CAFE

It’s no surprise that Detroit has several popular music festivals, especially throughout the summer. Stay tuned for a Labor Day weekend favorite for all the music lovers. Mussel Beach Music Festival is serving five days of highly unique performances at the historic Belgian bar and restaurant, Cadieux Cafe. Regular attendees of this Labor Day Detroit tradition can look forward to evenings of fun jams with the Brothers Groove at 9:15 p.m. Fri., Jo Serrapere & the LaFawndas at 9:30 p.m. Sunday and Mark-Paul & the Red Flags at 6:30 p.m. Mon. MICHIGAN STATE FAIR AT SUBURBAN COLLECTION SHOWPLACE

Are you a true Michigander if you don’t attend The Michigan State Fair? Take a trip out to Novi this upcoming Labor Day weekend for this annual event. Suburban Collection in Novi welcomes everyone to celebrate the state’s agricultural heritage with livestock shows, carnival rides, live music, and yummy fair food. Enjoy the kick-off on Thursday as it runs all the way through September 4 (Labor Day).
LABOR DAY PLANS THAT DON’T REQUIRE TRAVEL OR ATTENDING EVENTS
Detroit Parks & Recreation has plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors without feeling the city bustle. Visit a Detroit park and/or the Detroit River. Belle Isle is always an option!
