International Youth Day is on Tuesday, August 12. What are some Detroit youth organizations you’ve encountered that have made an impact on your life or someone around you?

Keep an eye on the generations following the current developments and decisions happening within the city of Detroit’s revitalization. We’ve featured various Detroit youth organizations and non-profits, but there are batches of new ones to know about along with others that we would love to highlight.

Detroit boys, girls, and all youth in the Detroit/Metro Detroit area are growing strong in their beliefs and own capabilities thanks to community support and leaders with a vision for uplifting younger generations from the earliest stages of life up through their early adulthood. Detroit nonprofit youth organizations heal from within, so individuals have a strong foundation.

As the kids and teens head back to school, know that there are local outlets and programs outside of academia to help keep their feet on the ground as they pave new paths wisely. Funding, community support, grants, and other alliances keep these organizations running smoothly.

Detroitisit rounded up a list of youth organizations in Detroit to know about, donate to, and be a part of!

DETROIT POWER OF YOU TEENS AKA DETROIT POWER GIRLS PROJECT

Youth organizations in Detroit are giving the power to the youth! With a Detroit Chapter led by Leora Edut, Detroit Power Girls is a 501C3 nonprofit organization founded in 2014, originating in Harlem. It was founded by Leora’s best friend, Felicia Gibson.

The organization centers around mental health, wellness, financial literacy, community giveback, and empowering young girls (specifically Black & Brown Teen Girls Ages 11-17) to create sisterhood that gives them messaging that they can’t trust other girls. With a 100% high school graduation rate, they are always welcoming new members!

Join their upcoming event on Sunday, August 24. They have their 4th Annual Back To School Mental Health and Beauty Slow Down. For more information, head over to @detroitpowergirls on Instagram.

LIVING ARTS

Youth organizations in Detroit keep the vibrancy and imagination of young minds alive through numerous avenues. Living Arts ignites creativity in the lives of Detroit youth through the performing, visual, and media arts. This year marks 25 years of spotlighting Detroit youth. They wouldn’t be able to share their vision of student excellence without the continued fundraising support of the local community. Find Your Light Foundation announced this summer that they are proud to support Living Arts and their mission through a grant. Keep up with Living Arts-community-centered programs, including early childhood classes, K–12 artist residencies, and afterschool arts education.
