5 Detroit Gyms Will Reopen, Social Distancing Rules Are Primary Focus

With the Greenlight to Reopen Gyms, Detroit Facilities Take Safety Precautions to Keep Members Fit

*Due to the federal appeals court ruling on Wednesday, June 23, there is a delay implementation of a judge’s order that would have allowed indoor gyms to reopen in Michigan beginning at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, June 25. Detroitisit will share any additional updates surrounding gyms reopening, upon availability.

After a long three months of gym closures, Detroit gyms have finally received the green light for reopening their doors and offering indoor workouts. Although Governor Whitmer has appealed the decision to a higher court due to concerns of another COVID-19 outbreak, many Detroit gyms still have plans to reopen. On Thursday, June 25, gyms will begin to reopen.

Here is a list of five Detroit gyms planning to reopen and what they are going to do to keep gym members and employees safe:

The fitness facility will reopen Thursday, June 25 with plans to limit class capacity and disinfecting diligently before and after each class. Detroit Body Garage is a Detroit gym that stands by the mission to be a vehicle of change through movement and community. With health and wellness as a top priority, the facility shut down prior to the government order to slow the spread of COVID-19 and ensure all members stayed healthy. Throughout the shut down, Detroit Body Garage offered free online classes via Instagram and Zoom.  As COVID-19 restrictions loosened and outdoor gatherings were deemed allowed at the beginning of June, the facility began offering classes outdoors, as all Detroit Body Garage equipment is outdoor-friendly. Every athlete has their own 4×6 mat that is placed 6 feet apart for social distancing.

Outdoor classes are also available online through live streaming for those who would like to attend from the comfort of their own home. The date for reopening indoor classes is still to be determined.

For more information, visit the Detroit Body Garage website or download the Detroit Body Garage app. The facility is located at 8635 Mack Ave, Detroit, MI 48214.
