5 Insights from Detroitisit Family Dinner at Corktown Favorite Takoi

Stoner Billboards, Clean Water & Coconut Ice Cream: This is How We Party

FAMILY DINNER AT TAKOI PHOTO AMI NICOLE / ACRONYM

Detroit, thanks for the great evening. A few days back we had the absolute pleasure of gathering with some of you in the backroom of Takoi for an intimate family dinner. Just as an excuse to catch up and face-time with our Detroit community.

And eat until we had to stand up—which is the stage right before unbuttoning your pants.

We ordered the tasting menu. It’s a delightful onslaught of spicy and savory that leaves you feeling equal parts satiated and overwhelmed. Just like inspired dinner conversation!

For those of you who missed it, bummer. But not to worry! We took notes!

5 HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE DETROITISIT FAMILY DINNER

1. HISTORY LESSON

Minoru Yamasaki designed the World Trade Center in NYC. He also designed Detroit’s Federal Reserve bank downtown Detroit—which sat vacant for years before our architect friends at Rossetti re-imagined it.

We’re hoping Rossetti offers to host the next family dinner at their spot.

2. INSIGHTS GAINED

Some of the cleanest drinking water in the world is coming out of Flint, Michigan. No jokes here.

Flint Native, Jonathan Quarles, wanted to give back to the city of his childhood, so he created SolAir, drinking water harvested from sunlight and air through magic.

Of course, we can’t remember the technical parts but the water tastes great and a percentage of all sales are donated to the Flint Water Fund. We call that better than a Topo Chico.

3. CANNABIS TALK

Why does some weed smell like lavender and some weed smell like gruyere? Terpenes!

Is weed the same as a flower? Is the term weed passé?

Peter Shin of Pleasantrees stopped by, so we could carry on—and on and on—about how much we love, love LOVE the stoner billboards.

MENU RECOMMENDATIONS

Fried chicken and coconut ice cream atop a mango puree, respectively. Although we will—and have, in fact, often do—eat both together.

Thank you for these delicious staples, Takoi.
