The Nonprofit Effect: Social Entrepreneurship

Join YNPN Detroit on Tuesday, February 27th for panel discussion featuring three incredible social entrepreneurs who are leveraging business tools to effect social change:

Richard Grundy, Journi: Richard, a native Detroiter is the cofounder and CEO of JOURNi. JOURNi is a non-profit focused on decentralizing tech education for Detroiters. Through partnerships with workforce development agencies, schools, community organizations and foundations, JOURNi has been able to train over 150 youth in web-development and entrepreneurship skills vital to closing the digital divide in Detroit. Prior to moving back to Detroit to start JOURNi, Richard worked as an agile project manager to deliver web and mobile development projects.

Chanel Hampton, Strategic Community Partners: Chanel Hampton is the Founder and President of Strategic Community Partners, an organization that partners with mission driven-organizations and leaders. Her academic, professional, and civic careers have built and honed-in on her expertise in the areas of diversity, equity, and inclusion; education (both from an instructional and administrative lens); leadership development and performance management; operations optimization; and recruitment. Chanel’s lifelong passions for Detroit, social justice, education, and diversity drive her personally and professionally and motivate her to continue, as well as expand.

Danielle Hughes, Detroit Speaks: Named to Forbes ‘30 under 30’ 2018 list for her profound work in education, Danielle D. Hughes has become one of Detroit’s most recognizable millennials for youth advocacy and empowerment. Pledging daily to be the person she says she needed when she was younger, the astute social entrepreneur, humanitarian and proud Detroit, MI native, makes it her mission to make an impact in the lives of her hometown youth, serving as Dream Director to high school students as well as founding partner & COO of Detroit Speaks, Inc., a nonprofit organization providing teens with mentorship, coaching, leadership and personal development skills to achieve their dreams.

This panel discussion will include opportunity for audience engagement and questions. The evening will open with an informal networking session and light refreshments will be served.
